Critical Analysis:
Working on this 'Proof of Concept' Assignment was an incredibly interesting experience for me. I'd never solely done lighting and sound before so I was enthusiastic to step up to the challenge - and a challenge it was. Having to organise boom positions to not get shadows in the shot, manoeuvring the lighting equipment in order to keep the consistency in the shot, and having to have that massive Tascam DR-70D Bag around my neck the whole day was enough of a challenge in of itself. Although these demand much of me, I was mentally prepared for such a task and thus, I was able to complete it with a smile on my face, and everyone else's. I'm incredibly happy with the final product and the group and I are very excited to showcase the final product soon. Something I wish we had was access to more microphones and lighting equipment just to add an element of finesse to each frame, making every shot look just as beautiful as the next naturally rather than through the editing.
Proof of Concept Synopsis:
‘Garbage Night’ is a proof of concept that delves into the notions of macabre humour to examine the jocose character development of Black and White under unforeseen circumstances. The two are rather comedic in their approach to the rather abhorrent situation of a supposed dead body of a girl in the trunk of their car. After discovering their lack of fuel, the hitmen, using satirical humour discuss the techniques White employed to complete the kill and his level of certainty in doing so. A persistent knocking from the trunk confirms Black’s suspicion that White was unsuccessful and the girl escapes, leaving a wounded Black and a hysterical White attempting to save Black's life.
Black and White approach a young female at a service station where they attempt to interrogate her about the whereabouts of the escapee in a witty manner. In the far distance, the girl is seen hobbling in the direction of the woods leading to the stranded car carrying a full fuel canister. The hitmen race back to the car, following the girl in stride as the camera pans to her filling the fuel tank and successfully driving off before Black and White reach her. The two are left stranded. Spiteful of her circumstances, the girl travels back towards the hitmen in an attempt to eliminate them. In a rather ironic sequence of events, the car hits Black and White and the scene fades to black.
