This week, our group was assigned to 3 different workshops for lighting in the new UNSW studio located in lower campus. It was interesting to receive some insight into the resources and equipment available to us in addition to getting hands on with all this newfound material.
In Part 1, we were tasked with shooting outdoors (in the foyer) and harness a mixture of natural and artificial lighting in order to accurately display a set of motions. We decided to use the dark hall as an example and reflect light upon the subject as they walk towards the camera - the closer to the camera they get, the clearer and brighter they become.
In Part 2, we harnessed the use of props and setting to create a small clip of an individual doing something very simple. In this part, I was tasked with reading a book, while we, figured out how to correctly light the individual to bring out their features. This was interesting because, although we wanted to bring out the black in the shirt a fraction more, it was intriguing to see how our group worked together to figure out what was working and what wasn't, and appreciating all the opinions expressed in-between.
In Part 3, our location changed to the main studio, as we were tasked with getting creative with lighting a subject. This was the most enjoyable personally, as we got to use all the equipment and gadgets inside the studio to create some beautiful shots as you can see below.
